Elections

Spring 2025 Elections
Introduction
Student Government uses elections to select its executive officers and senators.
The Elections Board is the body responsible for administering Student Government’s elections. It serves as the adjudicating board for election-related complaints as well as a resource for candidates – whether first-time or incumbent.
For questions about the elections process, contact the Elections Board (sg-elections-board@lists.utdallas.edu).
Process
To be elected to an executive or senatorial position in Student Government, you must:
- Meet the qualifications for the office you seek.
- Attend a senator election orientation if you are running for a school seat, a graduate seat, or an at-large seat.
- File to run for office.
- If you are running on a ticket, please have a campaign manager register your ticket.
- Receive the necessary votes to be elected.
- Submit a financial disclosure for your campaign.
Voting
On March 31st, all enrolled students will be sent an individual link to the ballot via email for the offices for which they are eligible to vote. All students may vote for their school’s senators and at-large senators.
Preliminary election results will be announced to candidates after the Elections Board meets and confirmed after the Elections Board has certified the election.
Qualifying for Office
Student Government requires the following to qualify for office:
- You must be enrolled for a minimum of nine (9) hours on the undergraduate level or six (6) hours on the graduate level.
- You must be in academic good standing and not on disciplinary probation.
- For school senators, you must remain a member of the school from which you were elected.
- For example, if you would like to run as an ECS senator, you must currently be an ECS student and remain an ECS student for your term of office.
Additionally, senators are expected to be available on Tuesdays from 5:30 PM – 7:15 PM for Senate meetings and meetings of committees to which they are appointed.
